The Outcome
The scheme was the culmination of a long term plan to deliver long overdue improvements to health care provision in Worthing that made the most of this underutilized brownfield site in a highly accessible location Worthing Town Centre. It consolidated services from around the town which were delivered from a number of outdated buildings into a modern, purpose built building. Included GP services, community services, mental health services and dentistry as well as a pharmacy and ancillary office accommodation.
The scheme went through a carefully managed pre-app process. The initial pre-application meeting introduced the scheme and provided guidance on the scope and content of the planning application. A second, more detailed pre-application meeting examined the design and layout. The scheme was then presented to the South East Design Panel. A wide ranging public consultation was undertaken prior to a final pre-app to discuss how the issues raised had been dealt with. This all built support for the scheme and meant that the planning application enjoyed a smooth passage and was unanimously approved by the Planning Committee.
