SP&D crafted a bespoke retail assessment that overcame the Council’s initial concerns by demonstrating how the proposal would help achieve their long term ambitions for the District Centre.

Although the District Centre was, on the face of it, healthy with a low vacancy rate it was dominated by estate agents, takeaways and pubs. We successfully made the case that by enhancing the centre’s convenience goods retail offer the proposal could spark a transformation in its character, driving increased footfall. We also explained how providing an anchor at the far end of the centre would draw shoppers through the centre. It would therefore support other specialist retailers in the centre rather than undermine them.
