The Outcome
A former warehouse site, the front part of which was redeveloped for retail with the rear half proposed for employment development as part of a separate outline planning application. An outline planning application was submitted with all matters reserved apart from access to establish the principle of development and allow a subsequent reserved matters application to respond to the eventual occupier’s detailed requirements.
Gaining the support of important local stakeholders was key to success. Although there were no residential properties near the site the Town Council was vocal and there was an a very active and influential group, ONE Haverhill, that brought together different groups involved in Haverhill. SP&D met with them and the Council to explain their vision for the site. Gaining their support was key to gaining the support of members and planning officers.
