The Outcome
The team at SP&D successfully made the case that although the buildings had originally been in agricultural use it should be considered brownfield as it had been used as storage for a marquee rental business. As the marque rental business was moving to modern premises elsewhere there would be no loss of employment.
The site was in an area that was heavily protected as it was ‘Countryside Beyond the Green Belt’ and an ‘Area of Great Landscape Value’ (AGLV). SP&D convinced the Council that the proposal would be an improvement on the existing dilapidated buildings and would respect the context and blend with the landscape. We walked the road past the site and the public footpaths near the site to demonstrate that there were in fact very limited public views of the site.
